What the Fee Depends On

  • How many transactions you have each month
  • How many bank accounts and cards there are

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, message Rhys.

  • What does a bookkeeper actually do?

A bookkeeper records the day-to-day money in and out of your business. That means logging sales and purchase invoices, matching transactions to your bank, and keeping track of who owes you and who you owe. Good books make your VAT, year-end accounts and tax returns quicker and more accurate.

  • What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

A bookkeeper keeps the records up to date through the year. An accountant uses those records to prepare your accounts and tax returns and to advise you. At RNE you get both: the books are kept, and the person keeping them also does your year-end.

  • Do I still need a bookkeeper if I use Xero or QuickBooks?

Software does a lot of the sorting, but it still needs someone to check the categories, reconcile the bank, and catch mistakes before they reach a tax return. Many clients keep using their software and hand RNE the checking and reconciling.

  • How often will my books be updated?

Monthly for most clients, or weekly if you have a lot of transactions. If you are VAT-registered, the books are always up to date before each quarterly return.

  • My books are months behind. Can you catch them up?

Yes. Catch-up bookkeeping is common, especially before a VAT or year-end deadline. Rhys will look at what you have, quote a fixed fee to bring it up to date, and then keep it there.

  • Does my bookkeeper need access to my bank account?

RNE needs read-only access to your transactions, usually through a bank feed into your accounting software. That does not let anyone make payments from your account.
