Service Overview

Clear, Accurate VAT Management You Can Count On

RNE Accounting prepares and files VAT returns for small businesses in Swansea and across South Wales. That covers registering for VAT, choosing the right scheme, and filing each quarterly return through Making Tax Digital software. You see the figures before anything goes to HMRC.

What are VAT Return Services?

VAT return services involve calculating the exact difference between the VAT you collected on your sales and the VAT you paid out on your business expenses.

We handle these calculations and submit the official return to HMRC every quarter.

What's Included

  • VAT Registration

We check whether you need to register, or whether registering early makes sense, then handle the application with HMRC.

  • Choosing a VAT Scheme

  • Quarterly VAT Returns

Your VAT worked out from your records and filed through MTD-compatible software before the deadline.

  • Checking What You Can Reclaim

Costs reviewed each quarter so you claim the VAT you are entitled to and nothing you are not.

VAT on eligible goods and services bought before you registered, claimed on your first return.

  • HMRC Letters and Queries

If HMRC asks a question about a return, we deal with it and keep you posted.

What It Costs

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, message Rhys.

  • When do I need to register for VAT?

You must register if your VAT-taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period, or if you expect it to in the next 30 days. You can also register voluntarily below that, which can make sense if your customers are VAT-registered businesses.

  • How often do I submit a VAT return?

Most businesses file quarterly. The return and any payment are due one month and seven days after the end of each VAT quarter. Returns must be filed through Making Tax Digital compatible software.

  • Which VAT scheme is right for me?

It depends on your turnover, your costs and who your customers are. The flat rate scheme suits some service businesses with low costs. Cash accounting helps if customers pay late. Rhys will compare the options with your real figures before you register.

  • Can I reclaim VAT on things I bought before I registered?

Often, yes. You can usually reclaim VAT on goods bought up to four years before registration, if you still have them, and on services from up to six months before. Our guide to reclaiming VAT before registration has more detail.

  • What happens if I miss a VAT deadline?

HMRC uses a points-based system for late returns, with a £200 penalty once you reach the threshold, plus late payment penalties and interest. RNE files ahead of the deadline and sends you the figure to pay in good time.

  • Do you check my return with me before it is filed?

Yes. You see the figures and the amount due or reclaimable before anything is submitted to HMRC.
